I've had an HD LCD TV for 2 years now; when my old DVD player (finally!) died last fall, I started looking for a new Blu-ray player. However, I still have over 100 VHS tapes of movies which cannot be purchased in DVD format (believe me, I looked for them everywhere on the internet - not even available on Amazon!). Since I live in a 600 sq ft condo, I don't have room for multiple pieces of electronics, & wanted a combo unit which played both Blu-ray AND VHS tapes. Panasonic seems to be the ONLY manufacturer who understands there are many of us out here who still have a collection of VHS tapes at home (whether purchased movies, or hours of 'home movies' recorded on VHS which would cost a fortune to convert to DVD). Thank you, Panasonic! I've used this unit for 3 months now, & have had no problems playing both types of recordings. I love being able to view Blu-ray format movies on my HD TV, & watch my personal collection of VHS tapes, which appear better than I remember when played on this unit vs. my ancient VHS recorder/player. It was literally "plug-n-play", with no problems on setup. For those of you who, like me, still have an extensive, irreplaceable VHS collection, but also want to take full advantage of your HD TV, (and don't want to spend several hundred $$ for recording capability) this unit is the way to go. |
